BLISSFULLY BLIND

This project was born out of my observation on social occurrences in Thailand, from conflicting opinions on small matters to national and political issues. When different opinions collide, I see that it is a great difficulty for people in our country to have a dialogue or exchange.

Having observed this, I think one of the reasons for this is that there are many things that happen and become news for us to talk about everyday as our lives go by. I see that people respond to this by waiting only to receive the piece of information that “speaks to them.” That means they choose to see some things and be blind to others, and both of them could well be facts or as true as the other. In a way, this kind of selective vision is like flooding spotlights onto something, giving significance and highlighting its importance over everything else. And each of us has our own individual way to support what we believe without incorporating other knowledge or information from the opposite side of opinion in the discussion.

Some people could even go as far as turning all lights off, telling themselves that what they have heard is fake and inexistent. As a psychotherapist and artist who has been observing this phenomenon, I feel it is indeed the state of blindness that a person inflicts upon themselves in order to sustain their own existence. – Dujdao Vadhanapakorn
