WAREHOUSE

BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY is proud to present WAREHOUSE – a trans-disciplinary presentation of the gallery’s exhibition-making activities, systems of knowledge creation, and archival processes. Running from February 8-25, the presentation is representative of an initial foray into archiving the gallery’s activities thus far –  going beyond the exhibition of artworks alone, to make apparent the otherwise invisible labors and routines that go into the gallery’s day-to-day operations. In this vein, the presentation is simultaneously an opportunity to make tangible the connections between the practices of artists that the gallery has presented, and take stock of developments since its inauguration.

Serving as the conceptual underpinnings of the presentation, the gesture of relocating the artworks from the gallery’s backroom to the main exhibition hall is symbolic of the myriad of tasks that correlate to exhibition-making – from the unpacking and condition checking of artworks prior to exhibiting, to their crating and inventorizing at a show’s conclusion. By uncovering such a veil, the range of existing and previously unreleased artworks now returned to display recall past exhibitions and programs delivered by the gallery. Moreover, by presenting alongside these artworks the research papers, planning sketches, and other documentations and materials re-encountered during such a  relocation, the ambiguous processes of developing an exhibition are clarified to audiences.

The presentation features artworks by more than 10 artists who have exhibited at the gallery, and is complemented by film screenings as well as a panel discussion. Such programming re-asserts BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY’s dedication towards a holistic representation of artistic practices; by means of ancillary initiatives catered towards educating publics. Through such opportunities of engagement with various audience demographics, the firm belief in creating avenues for ongoing conversations reiterates the collaborative spirit of the gallery and dedication towards proposing new concepts, subjectivities, and social imaginaries.

Guided by the acts of re-looking, re-visiting, and archiving, WAREHOUSE invites audiences to partake in an exercise of recollection and reorganization (of both knowledge and experiences) as the groundwork to blazing new paths together.
