BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY is proud to present ‘Waiting Room Live’ – a live performance held in conjunction with the debut of JPBS’ first full-length studio album ‘Waiting Room’. Supported and organized by BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY with scenography by DuckUnit, JPBS will be performing a rearrangement of the entirety of their new album for this performance. Divided into three acts – Below, Here, and Above – the re-sequencing of tracks will offer an alternative experience of the journey through the different soundscapes performed by JPBS.

The album brings together a collection of band member Jay Vatanakuljaras’s own ideas about forgotten places. Through the combination of and experimentation on various sonic materials, every track encapsulates the ambience of particular places in this aural world – each with their own distinctive mood and ambience. Riffing off notions of ‘Limbo’, this world that has been created amalgamates a breadth of musical influences spanning Thai court music to noise rock to free jazz.

The live performance and studio album launch are but two aspects of Waiting Room – a cross-disciplinary art project by Jay Vatanakuljaras that also encompasses storytelling and design works, as well as a website experience that is to come (www.waitingroom.live). Working at the intersections and boundaries of these media, he explores the possibilities of music and their varied manifestations in shared experiences.

JPBS

JPBS is a Bangkok-based instrumental rock band formed in 2012 comprising Jay Vatanakuljaras on guitar, Win Phummarin on drums, Wade Puaktes on guitar, Tong Phromma on bass, Name Jareontananan on synthesizer, and Sans Polsorn playing percussion. ‘Waiting Room’ is the first full-length studio album they have recorded.

DuckUnit

DuckUnit was founded in 2005. Its early work included concert stage design and artwork by the company’s founder Wit Pimkanchanapong. With a wide range of interests and a penchant for exploring possibilities of its members, DuckUnit’s design works emanate a sense of experimentation, finding possibilities in relationships among media, from animation to lighting and space, with the main work being concert stage design, stage play design, and performance arts design. DuckUnit is currently led by Rueangrith Suntisuk and Pornpan Arayaveerasid, who discovered their interest in experimenting with mechanical systems to incorporate them into installation art works, and continue to develop and expand their interests in other fields.
