MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum together with Navin Production – StudiOK, Bangkok CityCity Gallery and The Japan Foundation Bangkok cordially invite you to Chiang Mai Revisit, a public lecture by Navin Rawanchaikul. Held in the artist’s hometown and studio base Chiang Mai, Rawanchaikul will relates his practice with the evolution and history of Thai contemporary art with the Chiang Mai context and his experience of Chiang Mai life. Through a lecture-performance, reading a letter that Rawanchaikul wrote to Prof. Silpa Bhirasri, the artist and his studio team will revisit their memories of making SUPER(M)ART – Is Art Necessary? (2004-2015), Navin’s production’s large scale tryptic painting featured in the museum’s permanent display.

In addition to the lecture-performance, Hirokazu Tokuyama, Associate Curator of Mori Art Museum will give a special lecture on curating contemporary artworks by Thai artists to be exhibited in SUNSHOWER: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia 1980s to Now exhibition and join a roundtable discussion with the Thai participated artists in the show who will share and reflect their experiences of living and working in Chiang Mai in different eras. The guest panelists are Sutthirat Supaparinya, Mit Jai Inn and Uthit Atimana.

This public program is part of educational programs of Revisited < > Departed exhibition by Navin Rawanchaikul which is on view at Bangkok CityCity Gallery from February 15 – April 7, 2019.

The lecture will be in Thai with English interpretation.

16.00 – 16.30 A lecture-performance, reading at letter to Prof. Silpa Bhirasri by Navin Rawanchaikul and his studio team

16.30 – 17.15 An artist’s talk with Worathep Akkabootara, curator of the exhibition and Dr. Thanavi Chotpradit, a lecturer in the Department of Art History, Faculty of Archaeology, at Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand.
