Whether it is Art or Not: Life & Work of Chavalit Soemprungsuk

Whether it is Art or Not is a documentary on the life of Amsterdam-based Thai artist Chavalit Soemprungsuk by Nuankhanit Phromchanya. The two met when Phromchanya moved to study in Amsterdam in 2011. Alongside this is a publication by Pat Laddapan and Piyakorn Chaiverapundech, which acts as a physical catalogue of works from the artist’s online archive. This documentary explores Soemprungsuk’s lifelong dilemmas; of being part of two cultures, his dedication to the art and the constraint of living in the society, the choice between fame and solitary, and the blurring boundaries between physical and digital realities.
