To mark the momentous opening of the Lanna Architecture Centre (Khum Chao Buriratana), the centre – in association with MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum – welcomes all to witness the KHUM MAI X MAIIAM COLLECTION. The collection is made up of the permanent 130 years of Khum Chao Buriratana exhibition, which tells the story behind the historic structure in the middle of Chiang Mai, which has been recently renovated for public viewing, as well as the Fluidity of Scenes exhibition, which presents various contemporary artworks in MAIIAM collection from 4 artists, including Som Supaparinya, Miti Ruangkritya, Tawatchai Puntusawasdi , and Tada Hengsapkul.
Each of the 4 artists’ works tell of the changes in the ‘landscape’ that is somehow connected to a state of ‘liquidity’ in various ways – from a frame of thought to a physical state of being that is beholden to the surrounding landscape and geography – that reflect the backgrounds of each transformation that is unique depending on the context and time. This exhibition is meant to celebrate the opening of the Lanna Architecture Centre (Khum Chao Buriratana) after it’s latest renovation. The Fluidity of Scenes exhibition chooses to display the works of contemporary artists to generate new discussions in the area through a variety of creative works, including sculptures, film, and photography, while also having a connection to subjects of geography, history, and what it means to be a contemporary city. This historic building is a symbol of the old ways of life and cultural identity. When combined with contemporary art, it becomes a reflection of the eras both old and new.
The Fluidity of Scenes exhibition will be available for viewing from the 2nd of November, 2021 till the 28th of February, 2022. The exhibition’s Opening Ceremony will take place on the 5th of November, 2021, from 4:30 PM onwards.
