EXHIBITION
TANAT TEERADAKORN
CHAOS MANDALA: NATIONAL COLORATION COMPLEX
15 July–19 August 2023
CHAOS MANDALA: NATIONAL COLORATION COMPLEX, Tanat Teeradakorn’s latest body of work, reflects a cultural shift in Thailand. The politics of sound and latent symbology present in the cultural codes we encounter everyday continues to be the artist’s chief area of interest. Bringing together findings drawn from a vast array of sources, he samples layers and synthesizes aural and visual collages representative of the information overload of our times. With the synthesis of symbols drawn from the different cultural tiers apparent in his work, the artist alludes to the power hierarchies and dynamics in play since time immemorial. However, as traditional forms of storytelling and conveyance of oral histories give way to social media algorithms, the decline of grand historical narratives seems inevitable. In this respect, CHAOS MANDALA: NATIONAL COLORATION COMPLEX with its music, sights, and literatures, emerges as if a party at the confluence of these times.
